DC Zunheboto calls for peaceful ULB elections

DIMAPUR —The deputy commissioner of Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, has called upon the people to maintain its reputation of being the most peaceful district during election.

The DC stated this during the 2nd district level coordination meeting for the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections held on Friday in his office’s conference hall. He appreciated the citizens for maintaining peaceful environment in the last few years during elections and appealed to continue maintaining the same reputation.

Observer in-charge of Zunheboto district and additiona secretary, Yanpvuthung Kikon, informed that the government has come up with many means to maintain peaceful elections. He sought cooperation from all civil society organisations for peaceful conduct of ULB elections.

He further appealed to the candidates not to misuse the resources and cautioned that any unfair means would not be tolerated, stated a DIPR report.

The superintendent of police, Zunheboto, Kupe Kapfo, asked the candidates to discourage use of any intoxicant. Stating that every candidate’s decision to contest was for a noble cause, he said the effort should also be noble.

He informed that the elections security would be arranged in four sectors and monitored with full vigil by the head office. He asked the candidates to be careful of any electoral offences, saying that it would be least tolerated.

The ADC and RO, Keyirangding Hegui, briefed the participants on the ULB elections model code of conduct, focusing on important points such as not to indulge in advertisements through hoardings, posters, stickers etc. without the consent of the owner or anyone concerned, use of loudspeaker in the restricted time.

He informed that setting up of youth camps or mess for campaigning purposes is completely banned. He further appealed to the GBs, councils, election officials, government officials and all other concerned for unbiased conduct of elections.

Coordination meeting held in Pfutsero and Tseminyu

In a related programme, the election observer of Pfutsero Town Council (PTC) and joint secretary, V Lovitoly Sema, held a coordination meeting with the administration, police, government officials and public leaders at the conference hall of the ADC’s office in Pfutsero town on Friday.

The observer called upon the members to maintain peaceful environment during ULB election and requested the public leaders of every ward to maintain proper polling station for the smooth conduct of election.

The returning officer of PTC, Moakumzuk Tsudir, also advised the officers and colony leaders to strictly follow the election guidelines, while the ARO, C Phuniang, highlighted on the model code of conduct and SDPO, Pfutsero, briefed on the law and order situations.

Meanwhile, a district level coordination committee meeting for the ULB election was also held at the office chamber of the deputy commissioner of Tseminyu on Friday.

The DC of Tseminyu, Rohit Singh; additional deputy commissioner of Tseminyu, Longasen Lotha; EAC (Hq) Ruokuosetuo Tetso; additional superintendent of police, LanuAier; all ward GBs, members of Tseminyu Town Council and all the president of political parties attended the meeting.
