DC Mon cautions on sale, purchase of illegal lotteries
DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma has informed that lottery games like Shillong Teer, Nagaland Arrow and Raja Rani, which are being sold in various towns within Mon district, are illegal and in contravention to the Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998.
In an order dated June 14, the DC notified that any person engaged in the sale, distribution or purchase of tickets of such lotteries shall be punishable with rigorous punishment for a term which may extend to two years or with fines or both. Further, such offence shall be cognisable and non-bailable, the order stated.
The DC also requested all the administrative officers, in coordination with security agencies, to immediately conduct verification within their respective jurisdiction and shut down all outlets where such illegal lotteries are being sold.
It further informed that the order has been issued in line with the Finance Department (Lottery Branch) letter dated May 1, 2024.
