DC Mokokchung convenes meeting to discuss deplorable roads

Ao Senden, AWUM warns of democratic agitation

MOKOKCHUNG — DC Mokokchung Thsuvisie Phoji convened a crucial coordination meeting at the DC conference room on Tuesday to discuss the district’s deplorable road conditions.

Representatives of NHIDCL, PWD (NH), PWD (R&B), Ao Senden, and All Ward Union Mokokchung (AWUM) were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the DC highlighted the deplorable road condition within Mokokchung and said that the district being the nerve centre even for the neighbouring districts, the road should be all weathered and motoble throughout the year.

The executive engineer PWD (NH) highlighted the failure of the EPC contractor, i.e., Trident Enterprise, in completing its work despite repeated appeals by the project monitoring group.

He further explained that the department has yet to take over the maintenance work project from the NHIDCL.

In this regard, the NHIDCL engineers clarified that they were directed by their head office not to take up any sort of work except those roads entrusted to them; therefore, they had to immediately cease work at NH 702D.

The maintenance work project for this stretch is being foreclosed, and in the process of handing it over to the parent department (PWD), it was stated.

Meanwhile, Ao Senden president and AWUM executives expressed strong resentment towards the prevailing road condition within Mokokchung district.

According to the meeting minutes, they further said that if the roads are not repaired or made motorable within the next five days, they will begin democratic agitation, and the concerned contractor and supervising agency will be made responsible for any untoward incident.
