DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, has appointed officials in connection with the counting for the general election to the Lok Sabha 2024, scheduled to be held on June 4.

These include the appointments of counting supervisors, tabulators, IT teams, counting assistants and other counting-related assignments, including MTS/Grade IV, according to a DIPR report.

As per Section 28A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the officials so appointed are deemed to be on deputation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and would be subject to the control, superintendence and discipline of the ECI.

Section 26 of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951, also empowers the DEO to impose all obligations of such officers, irrespective of their consent, at the peril of prosecution under Section 134 of the said Act in default.

“This principle equally applies to any case of refusal to attend training, as it is part of the obligations of such an appointment as counting personnel,” it stated.

It was also informed that the training for microobservers, counting supervisors, tabulators and counting assistants will be held on May 30 from 11 am onwards at Town Hall, Mokokchung. The officials have been notified to report at 6 am on the counting date (June 4) at the counting venue (DC conference hall).
