DC Kohima orders closure of shops on polling day

Dimapur, Oct. 31 (EMN): In view of the upcoming bye-election to the 14th Southern Angami-l assembly constituency scheduled on November 3, the deputy commissioner and district election officer of Kohima, Mohammed Ali Shihab A, has directed all the shop, business establishments and government offices under the 14-Southern Angami-l assembly constituency and within Kohima municipal area to remain closed on the polling day from 4 am to 7 pm.

The order also stated that paid holiday would be granted to all employees from the area of the constituency including the electors outside the constituency to enable them participate and exercise their universal adult franchise. The order, however, stated that it would not apply to “those electors whose absence may cause danger or substantial loss in respect of the employment in which he/she is engaged”.

It further stated that failure to comply with the order would invite legal actions as per relevant sections of the law under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
