DC Kohima launches PMGKAY scheme

Kohima, April 23 (EMN):
Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, launched the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Kohima on Friday.

Speaking at the launch programme here at the Naga Hospital Colony, Kohima, the DC said through this scheme free rice of five kg to each person would be given to Antyodaya and Priority households ration card holders. The distribution would continue for three months, he said.

Earlier rice were given to card holders at a subsidized rate through National Food Safety Act, but this time, rice would be given for free for three months, he said adding this was initiated to help reaching out to the people in need.

Meanwhile, beneficiaries from colony have thanked government for providing them with free rice during the lockdown. One of the beneficiary having eight members in the family said that they are surviving on the rations provided to them.

“Sometimes we sustained on the rice provided for whole month, while sometime it run short,” said another beneficiary.

Visatso Kuotsu, in charge of distributing rice to the beneficiaries at Naga Hospital Colony, said they are distributing rice according to the size of the family. He added that there are about 150 ration card holders in the colony.
