Dimapur, July 12 (EMN): The deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, has prohibited movement of any transport vehicles beyond three-axle, including semi-tractor articulated trailers which is also three-axle vehicle but whose carrying capacity is 30.5 tonnes or more, along the National Highway stretch from Dimapur with effect from July 15 midnight.
The deputy commissioner has issued this order in pursuance to the Transport department’s notification dated July 11 as well as in the interest of public safety and convenience.
It may be mentioned that in exercise of powers conferred under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, Nagaland Governor has prohibited movement of any transport vehicles beyond three-axle, including semi-tractor articulated trailers which is also three-axle vehicle but whose carrying capacity is 30.5 tonnes or more, along the National Highway stretch from Dimapur to Kohima to Mao Gate for the period from July 18 to August 18.
In addition, the deputy commissioner stated goods transport vehicles should carry only the permissible weight as per the registration certificate and also obtain a weighing measure certificate from the weighing station.
Further for the convenience of the public, he stated that weight stations under Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts are located at Sarawgi weight bridge at Golaghat Road in Dimapur, Om weight bridge at Diphu road near Dimapur Government College, and 7th Mile inter-state truck terminal, Chümoukedima.
Citing Section 194 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, he stated that overloaded vehicles would not be allowed to ply and cautioned that all offenders would be liable to be punished with a fine of INR 20,000 and an additional amount of INR 2000 per tonne of excess load, together with the liability to pay charges for offloading of excess load.
