DIMAPUR — The Children’s Parliament initiative under the Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) facilitated the formation and organised a general assembly of district-level children’s parliament at Government High School (GHS), Wokha village, on Saturday.

According to a press release, it was themed ‘Children’s engagement in experiential learning to develop and enhance leadership skills’.

speaking on the occasion, Myingthunglo Ngully, senior sub-divisional education officer, Wokha, stated in her keynote address that the occasion marked a significant milestone in nurturing children in schools and communities to become active participants in the democratic process.

Stating that children are the voice of the future, she emphasised that their involvement is crucial for shaping the world of tomorrow. She stressed that the formation of the children’s parliament is not just a ceremonial exercise; it is a recognition of the vital role that children play in society.

She mentioned that through this initiative, children have a unique platform to express their views on matters that affect them directly, whether it be education, health, or the environment.

A total of 64 participants took part in the programme, along with volunteer mentors from various schools and communities. Renbi Ovung of Montfort School, Baghty, was elected the prime minister of the children’s parliament.
