Minister for School Education & SCERT, Yitachu, on Saturday called upon the Chakhesang youth to be ambassadors of peace and take the lead in bringing about social reformation to build better relationships and take forward Naga society.
Speaking at the 9th General Conference of Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) at Baptist Theological College, Pfütsero, the legislator acknowledged that Nagas do not lack in anything as they have a very rich land but the main cause of concern is that many people want to earn “easy money without struggling”. Stating that the younger generation is the future and backbone of the society, he underscored that the Naga youth should create awareness amongst the people to change the attitude and mindset of seeking government jobs and to venture into entrepreneurship and corporate businesses.
He said the state government is spending funds on payment of salaries to 1.40 lakhs government employees because of the problem of job avenues in the state, and if another 30,000 educated youths are given government jobs, the state will not have anymore funds to carry out development. Towards this concern, he stressed on the need to have industries and commerce as an alternative for employment of the educated youths.
Delving on the Naga political issue, the minister said solution to the decades old political problem has been evading the Naga people because of the division in the society and unless there is unity among the Naga people there cannot be genuine conclusion, he added.
Earlier, the CYF president, Zhopayi Nakro delivered the presidential address while greeting was extended by Chakhesang Public Organisation general secretary, Kekhwengulo Lea. Parliamentary secretary for Higher & Technical Education, Deo Nukhu was among other dignitaries who graced the conference.
Meanwhile, CYF resolution committee convenor, Thepuphi Kapuh announced that the conference consensually resolved to uphold and preserve “our rich cultural heritage whereby it would continue to enrich and strengthen our people.”
The CYF reaffirmed its pledge and commitment to uphold the ban of import of pig from outside the district and also reaffirmed its commitment to biodiversity conservation by upholding a restriction on forest burning, prohibition of hunting and also to totally refrain from extracting flora and fauna for commercial purposes. The CYF also resolved that every delegate participating in the general conferences shall at least wear one’s traditional attire.
The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has also elected its new team of office bearers for the tenure 2015-17. Act of blessing for the new office bearers was conducted by Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo, executive secretary Chakhesang Baptist Church Council. The new team will be led by president Welete Kapfo.
