CVScAH conducts training on artificial insemination in pigs
DIMAPUR — A three-day training on ‘Artificial insemination in pigs’ held at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (CVScAH) Jalukie, a constituent college of Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Jalukie, Peren, culminated on Thursday.
The training was organised by the college’s Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics for AI workers and farmer, where a total of 15 participants from different districts of Nagaland participated in the training, an update from the college stated.
The training covered various topics including general concept of pig reproduction, heat detection, oestrus synchronisation, artificial insemination, arrangement and handling of AI materials, semen collection from trained boars, post-breeding and farrowing management.

A hands-on training on AI in pigs was also demonstrated to the trainees. Dr. A Palanisammi, professor and head of Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics; Dr. Tukheswar Chutia, assistant professor; Dr. N Bhumapati Devi, assistant professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex and Dr. Iluheibe, farm manager, Department of LFC, were the resource persons.
In the valedictory function, Dr. I Shakuntala, dean of the college, briefed about the importance of AI in pigs to uplift piggery sector in the state. She also encouraged the trainees to adopt scientific breeding and management for better production.
The trainees expressed gratitude to the college for arranging valuable training for them, it stated. Trainees were awarded with certificates upon successful completion of the training programme.
