KOHIMA — Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) Chairperson, Asano Sekhose, on Saturday asked educational institutions to create a conducive environment for students to cultivate a genuine thirst for knowledge and encourage them to explore their passion naturally.

Speaking at the 50 years celebration of Chandmari Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Kohima, guest of honour, Sekhose pointed out that the world is witnessing rapid changes in every field and faced with varied challenges.

On this, she said that schools as social institutions, should channelise efforts to educate and train students to face the challenges ahead. Success in life will depend on how the child is trained and empowered with skills and knowledge, she added.

Pointing out that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisions a transformational shift in the education system, the official emphasised on developing the competency and critical skills of the learners, saying that every child is capable of learning.

Maintaining that children learn best when they are respected, valued and involved in learning, she said that focus of learning process today should aim at making the students learn the fundamentals or basics, have conceptual clarity and develop the critical and analytical thinking skills.

“The education we impart today should ensure that students learn with understanding and the knowledge they get become practical and applicable to them to accomplish their goals,” she said.

Education that an institution provides lays the foundation in shaping the personality of the child, she said while urging schools to explore all possible ways to let the students unleash their potential and chart their own success stories.

The NBSE chairperson also lauded the CHSS Kohima on reaching the milestone — Golden Jubilee — and congratulated the pioneers and the school management for their vision and far-sightedness in establishing the school in 1974 and imparting quality education.

The school has grown into a big family, imparting the much-needed education, and has gained recognition and trust from the students and parents alike over the years, she said.

“The achievements already made by the school are clear testimony to the vision by the pioneers and I hope many more achievements will follow in the years ahead,” she added.

Furthermore, she encouraged the school to keep up the standard it has set and work harder to achieve greater levels of excellence, adding that every student who leaves the doors of CHSS Kohima should leave a mark on the school and have the conviction that they have the power to make a positive impact.

Sekhose went on to urge the school to strive for excellence, embrace innovation and continue nurturing young minds with compassion and care, in order to leave behind a positive legacy.

Earlier in the programme, principal of CHSS Asenla Temsü, who is also the Convenor of the Jubilee Planning Committee, in her welcome address, recalled how the school that was started in 1974 by some like-minded concerned parents headed by Aienla Bendang, as a ‘small tutorial class’, has come a long way to reach the milestone and celebrate the golden jubilee.

Informing that the school gas produced many professionals over the years, she urged the staff and management to rededicate themselves and continue to work towards conquering greater heights for CHSS.

Pheluopfelie Kesiezie, first president of All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA), and Ashikho Boso, principal of Holy Family Hr. Sec. School, Kohima, also spoke at the event.

To commemorate the golden jubilee, Rev. Dr. Meyu Changkiri, Pastor of Ao Baptist Church Shillong and an alumnus of the school, unveiled the monolith, while Rev. Tiatoshi Longkumer, Pastor of Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo (KABA), offered the thanksgiving prayer.

Asano Sekhose released the souvenir of the jubilee during the event.
