Culmination programmes for skill training for rural women held
DIMAPUR — The culmination programme of ‘Skill training for rural women through mobile skill morung,’ conducted by the Department of Employment Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, was held at Wozhuro range, Wokha district, on August 17.
Secretary and ex-officio director, Meyase, addressing the function, emphasised that the programme was carefully designed and delivered with special consideration of the unique accessibility challenges faced by women in the region, according to a DIPR report.
He noted that many women, despite their significant contributions to the workforce, are unable to participate in skill development programmes due to family obligations and the lack of mobility to travel outside their homes and villages for training.
He informed that this programme focused on empowering women with practical skills and marked a significant step towards promoting economic independence and self-reliance among women.
He further encouraged the trainees to take up tailoring within their villages to augment their family income and contribute to the local economy. He also appealed to the area leaders present to fully utilise the services of the trained candidates.
A total of 25 women from six villages within the Wozhuro Range participated in the training programme.
All the trainees were provided with a basic toolkit, including a sewing machine, electronic iron, scissors, measuring tapes, French curve, thimble, and seam ripper, to facilitate their transition from training to self-employment.
A similar programme, organised by the Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, concluded at Phomching headquarters on August 17.
