CS urges more State task forces

Dimapur, August 29 (EMN): A meeting of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) – State Task Force- under the chairperson of Pankaj Kumar, Chief Secretary, was held on August 29 in the conference hall of the chief secretary.
The ambassador for the girl child- an initiative of the Government of Nagaland where education and participation of the girl child is the main goal/ objectives- was introduced by Daisy Mezhur, Mission Director of State Resource Centre for Women with the motto “Let’s support a future that’s ready to take off.”
Tauhong Phom, CDPO & Nodal Officer for BBBP, gave an overview of the activities of the district and block task force for the year 2016-17. He informed that under the banner of BBBP, eleven new born babies were given cash awards, while nine girls from government schools were felicitated for meritorious academic excellence on International Day of the Girl Child celebration in Longleng. Besides, he said a plantation drive on the theme ‘one tree for one student’ was carried during the period and also launched the Adolescent Girls Club in three schools in Longleng.
Juliana Medom, Assistant State Coordinator, while highlighting on the State level activities till date, said Pooorna Shakti Kendra and Nagaland Adolescent Girls Club activities are continuing despite non release of funds. She also gave a brief presentation on the implementation of district level BBBP activities and fund utilisation.
In conclusion, the chief secretary suggested for one more State Task Force during the current financial year.
