CPO, SH declare to strengthen bond between communities
DIMAPUR — The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and Sümi Hoho (SH) have signed a joint declaration to strengthen bond of brotherhood between the two communities.
The joint declaration to this effect was made during a coordination meeting held in Chozuba village on May 18. An update from the two organisations stated that leaders have discussed on mutual interests, address common challenges and explore avenues for common cooperation.
It stated that recognising the importance of ensuring long-term harmony, mutual respect and understanding between the two communities and in the true spirit of brotherhood, the parties have agree to maintain a cordial relationship between the people of Chakhesang and Sumi.
The joint declaration was made to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between the members of both communities, to promote mutual support and assistance in times of need.
The parties have resolved to forgive and forget the past incoherent behavior or actions that has created misunderstanding between the two brethren including the September 5, 2023 incident at Chozuba town, which would be treated as a closed chapter. Consequent upon this, it stated that the Chozuba Range Public Organisation’s press statement of disassociation from Sumi-Chakhesang brotherhood would be withdrawn with immediate effect.
The parties have committed to treat all members of both communities with dignity and respect irrespective of their background, beliefs or affiliations.
The parties also agreed to maintain open and regular communication to address any issues or concerns that might arise. In case of any disputes, it stated that a joint committee consisting of equal representatives from both communities concerning the villages/ areas would be established to mediate and resolve the matter amicably.
The parties have agreed to advise their members to refrain from spreading misinformation and inflammatory comments on social media as it is detrimental to communal harmony. It added that any amendments to the joint declaration should be made in writing and signed by authorised representatives of both parties.
Meanwhile, it informed that the joint declaration would remain in effect indefinitely unless terminated by mutual consent of both parties.
Earlier, Vecito Dozo, CPO vice president, chaired the meeting, while an invocation prayer was said by Rev. Hukugha Zhimo, senior pastor of Satakha Town Baptist Church, and concluded with a benediction said by Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo, senior pastor of Chakhesang Baptist Church, Diphupar.
