Connecting people to nature through awareness programmes
Dimapur, June 5 (EMN): With the aim to preserve and protect the environment, all 11 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) across the state commemorated World Environment Day with the theme “Connecting People to Nature” by organizing tree plantation, awareness programme and painting competition on June 5.
KDLSA: Launching the tree plantation campaign organized by Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) in collaboration with Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change at Panchayat Hall Phesama Village, where Justice L.S. Jamir, Judge Gauhati High Court and executive chairman of NSLSA underscored the duty of society to protect environment for co-existence of men and environment. Pointing out that protection of environment is mandated by the constitution, he said that it is the duty of everyone to protect environment for future generation. He also urged students to take care of the environment because education is not only about books.
Y. Longkumer, Registrar Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench, Nino Iralu, member secretary NSLSA, VictoSema, NJS chief judicial magistrate Kohima and secretary KDLSA and students planted tree saplings.
Savino Kikhi spoke on “environment protection with special reference to landslide area”, while Ashu Theyo, Retainer Lawyer Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench spoke on Environment Protection Act, 1986”.
MDLSA: Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted tree plantation and awareness programme at Industrial Training Institute Mon, where NeikoKanuo, Chairman DLSA Mon spoke on the concept and importance of world environment day. M. Moba Konyak, Panel Lawyer MDLSA spoke on Environment Protection Act 1982, while Dominic Kaiba, Panel Lawyer MDLSA spoke on Wildlife Protection Act 1972. Vito K Chishi, APP spoke on global warming and Alongse Sangtam, Prinicpal ITI Mon spoke on importance of tree plantation.
PDLSA: Peren District Legal Service Authority (PDLSA) in collaboration with the District Forest Department and District Administration conducted awareness programme at Ngwala, Peren and tree plantation at the New District Court premises and EAC office, Ngwala.
Advocate Italang, Panel Lawyer PDLSA highlighted on the various laws and Acts made for protection of forest and wildlife in India and Nagaland state policy of environment and forest.
The EAC Yanthungbemo Kikon reminded the participants about the significance of Peren being the Green District and the theme for 2017 and encouraged the people to safeguard and protect its natural forest and its resources.
ZDLSA: Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) conducted social work and tree plantation at the premise of District Court Complex Zunheboto.
Niechochiyi Suyie, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman ZDLSA planted the sapling and also delivered a short speech on the significance of the day. Senior Panel Lawyer AkatoYepthomi spoke on the adverse effects of environment pollution leading to climate change and the need for conservation efforts.
TDLSA: Tuensang District Legal Services Authority (TDLSA) planted tree saplings at Sao Chang Government College and Saksi, 3rd NAP Sector, Ward-13 in collaboration with Sao Chang Govt. College Authority and Chang Students Union Saksi, 3rd NAP Sector.Shri. N. Kano, Secretary TDLSA planted the first sapling.
LDLSA: Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDLSA) conducted painting competition at St. Mary’s school Longleng. Keynote address was delivered by ImlichubaPhom, PLV LDLSA, while speech on environmental issues was delivered by Headmaster St. Mary’s School.
WDLSA: Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) conducted inter-middle school painting competition at DC Conference hall Wokha. Short speech was delivered by Advocate David Ezung, Panel Lawyer WDLSA, while significance of world environment day was highlighted by Advocate Renponthung Tsanglao, Panel Advocate.
KDLSA: Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) conducted tree plantation at the premises of District Court Complex Kiphire and awareness programme at Zisaji Presidency College Kiphire. M.T. Therieh, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary KDLSA initiated the tree plantation. During the awareness programme, M.T. Therieh, explained the importance of protecting and preserving the environment.
The winners of the placard competition held on world no tobacco day, were Tsarimong of Loyala Higher Secondary School, Iceu of Zisaji Presidency College and Rilila of Loyola Higher Secondary School Kiphire.
PDLSA: Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) along with Chakhesang students planted saplings at Government Higher Secondary School Phek.
MDLSA: Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted social work at Mokokchung Law College and distributed tea saplings among the members for adoption and care.
DDLSA: Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) conducted environment law seminar with students.
