MOKOKCHUNG — Mokokchung District Congress Committee (DCC) on Friday handed over the party tickets to two women candidates for the upcoming Mokokchung Municipal Council election.

Among the two Congress candidates, Bendanginla O would contest from a general category at Majakong ward, while other candidate Yongkongsangla R would contest from Artang ward under 33 percent reservation for women.

Speaking at the ticket distribution programme, the DCC convener of ULB election, Toshipokba Longkumer, informed that the committee would distribute six tickets for municipal council and 7 tickets for town councils. He also disclosed that the party was expecting more prospective candidates.

Bendanginla O, while accepting the Congress ticket, stated that she was prepared to contest the upcoming urban local body (ULB) from Majakong seat whether it falls under general or reserved category.

Expressing gratitude to the Congress for the ticket, she stated that her decision to contest from general category was not about undermining the men but to serve the people as daughter of the soil of Majakong ward in particular and Mokokchung in general. She also vowed to serve the people with transparency and accountability, if given the mandate.

Yongkongsangla R also received Congress ticket for Artang ward. She has assured the party workers that their efforts would not go in vain but surely bore fruits.

She has assured to uplift the women in every aspect by imparting vocational training for self-sustenance. She further assured to sponsor underprivileged students in their pursuit for higher education.
