Dimapur, Sep. 15 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded the appointment of Lokayukta in the state without delay, saying that there is no reason to keep the post vacant for one year.

In a press release, NPCC President K Therie asked why the 60 MLAs are remaining silent on the matter. He said that the legislators shouldn’t hesitate to appoint Lokayukta if they are free from corruption.

“What we have is potholed roads, erratic power supply, private water supply, private hospitals, private schools, private agriculture – all left to the people to survive on their own and to fend for themselves,” read the press release.

He went on to add that the CAG report had exposed many incomplete development projects in the state.

It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court on India had accepted the resignation of Nagaland Lokayukta Justice (retd.) Uma Nath Singh in February this year, months after the state government sought a directive from the apex court against the ombudsman, citing “unjust and arbitrary” personal demands as the reason.

The top court had wondered how Singh, who was appointed as the first Lokayukta of Nagaland, would discharge his duties in the state while sitting in the national capital.
