IMPHAL — The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur to take necessary legal action against the concerned authority/authorities over the alleged inserting of unknown persons numbering around 104 voters in the recently released electoral roll published by the electoral registration officer, Lamphelpat.

Informing this at a press conference in Imphal on Monday, former president of MPCC and legislator N Loken Singh said, “The said 104 voters have been found in the electoral roll of the Polling station 24/3 (Utlou-B) under 24-Nambol assembly constituency, Manipur whose names, father’s name, husband’s name or even their photos are missing in the said electoral rolls.”

The said unknown persons, whose identities are not clear, were enlisted during the period of one Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO)/Nambol who was later transferred to Jiribam district as SDO/BDO (Block Development Officer), Jiribam, he alleged.

All these unknown persons were said to be taking shelter at a relief camp following the conflict in the state which erupted on May 3 last year but was later found out that no inmates are presently taking shelter at the said relief camp, it claimed.

It may be mentioned that according to election officials, Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) who are presently taking shelter at relief camps in the conflict-affected Manipur will be treated as electors of the original place and special polling stations will be arranged under a new scheme for them in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

However, the case at a polling station in Nambol assembly constituency is completely different as the IDPs are listed in the electoral rolls without names, father’s name, husband’s name and without photos, alleged the congress leader, who has been elected five times from Nambol assembly seat since 1995.

General Secretary and in-charge of election of MPCC, H Meghachandra also lodged a complaint with the CEO Manipur in this regard.
