[dropcap]B[/dropcap]JP in Arunachal Pradesh today accused the ruling Congress of manipulating opposition candidates through various means by pressing them either not to file nominations or withdraw papers in order to win as many as seats uncontested in the April 9 Assembly polls in the state.
“The Congress here is indulged in total sabotage of the democratic process by manipulating the opposition candidates through various means not to file nominations or withdraw papers in various constituencies,” BJP state-unit president Tai Tagak alleged in a press conference here today.“…And they (Congress) had managed eight seats unopposed so far,” he added.
The strategy to hunt on opposition candidates for its mission to win as many as seats uncontested, had denied people in the respective constituencies the opportunity to use their right to vote, Tagak said, demanding the Election Commission to take note of the situation and take corrective measures immediately.
Congress workers in several Assembly constituencies were targeting BJP leaders and were distributing money among voters in several constituencies, Tagak alleged.
“Despite strong monitoring by the EC, Congress has been freely distributing money among voters in several constituencies,” he alleged, adding that the entire government machinery was with the ruling party.
He cited intelligence sources that the Congress is likely to resort to vote capturing in various polling stations during the elections, and urged the EC to ensure free and fair polling.
Confident that his party would win more than 30 seats in the Assembly polls, Tagak said doors are open for all non-Congress parties for a post-poll alliance in the state.

Modi to start poll campaign on March 31

BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will kickstart the poll campaign for his party here on March 31 for the April 9 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
Modi is scheduled to address the “Asha Ki Nayi Kiran” rally at Indira Gandhi Park here, party’s state unit president Tai Tagak said during a press conference here this afternoon.
“We have constituted several committees to make the rally a grand success similar to the February 22 rally at Pasighat in East Siang district” Tagak said.
He said, former minister Talo Mugli has been appointed as the organising committee chairman for the March 31 rally.
“Modi has a strategic vision for the North East, specially for Arunachal Pradesh, which will be announced during the rally,” Tagak said adding, internal security, law and order and border row would be the priorities for the party if voted to power.
“Modi has a vision for land-locked Arunachal which will be beneficial for all irrespective of political affiliation,” he said.
After Itanagar, Modi would address rallies at Gogamukh, Biswanath Chariali and Tinsukia in Assam.
