College adds music course to curriculum as part of skill devp

Kohima, June 28 (EMN): Alder College in Kohima has launched ‘add-on courses’ for voice, violin, and dancing in collaboration with Symphony Academy of Music. The course was launched by Project Director of the government’s Music Task Force, Gugs Chishi, at the college’s auditorium this morning.
Alder College’s Principal Dr Rukhono K Iralu said that the institution has seven academic courses besides other add on courses. Saying that music was something that motivates and inspires every individual, Iralu hoped that the new add-on courses would help students in developing their skills.
Speaking during the occasion, Gugs Chishi observed that the state has a large talent pool in the field of music. This aspect is yet to be fully explored, he said.

Highlighting the prospect of music as a profession, he said ‘it is a way of life and a livelihood’ for those who take music seriously, which requires hard work, dedication and discipline.’ Describing music as a part of life, Chishi said ‘music is a blessing to those whom we connect who are at receiving ends.’
Chishi was optimistic that the add-on courses in music would enhance and help the students in developing additional life skills. However, he advised the students not to take the courses just for the sake it, but pursue them according to interest.
The director of Symphony Academy of Music, Mele Pucho, highlighted in the brief the syllabus and the examination boards within the state itself that are being conducted.
Earlier, he said, musicians went to Delhi to appear for examinations. However, now people can sit for examinations at home conducted by international examination boards such as the Trinity Guildhall, and the ABRSM, London College of Music, the Trinity Rock & Pop and Rockschool UK.
Alder College is the second institution with which Symphony Academy of Music has collaborated to introduce add-on courses in music.
