Dimapur, Sep. 29 (EMN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio condoled the demise of Y Hewoto Awomi, former minister, and V Zao, retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, on September 28.

Rio shared that Awomi selflessly rendered his service diligently and sincerely, and was a very helpful person, especially to the marginalised section of the society.

“I would also like to add that he was a very charismatic person. His death is a great loss for the state in general, and for the Sumi community in particular and his absence will be deeply felt by all,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said Zao began his government service as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Nagaland Police Service as an upright and dedicated officer and served in various capacities and departments till his release from service as DIG in 1966.

“Even after his retirement, he continued to extend his experience and knowledge to the community including serving as president of the Angami Public Organisation,” Rio stated.

“I found him to be a simple, down to earth and honest man. He had a good sense of humour and a positive outlook on life,” he added.

He further conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of both the families.
