Cistus School Wokha celebrates cultural day
WOKHA — Cistus School Wokha (CSW) on Tuesday organised a cultural day at the school campus with Yanrenthung Humtsoe, chairman of Micro and Medium Enterprises, Promotion Council of India, Wokha district as the special guest of the event.
In his address, Humtsoe, who is also the president of Wokha District Sports Association, said that culture is the identity of any community, while noting that the celebration of cultural day by CSW shows the school’s priority in promoting culture and its identity besides textbook learning.
Emphasising that education is an all-round development of personality and is not complete without co-curricular activities, he encouraged the school authorities and teaching faculty to honour age-old traditions and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Lotha Naga community.
Exhorting the students to actively participate in any given platform to boost their confidence, which will give them an edge over the others, he also urged them not to just attend the event for namesake but to inherit and learn the values of festival, unity, strengthening of brotherhood and relationship.
Humtsoe went on to state that culture is the key component to peace keeping and strengthening relationship. He also cautioned the youth on the negative impacts of modern technology including excessive use of mobile phones and internet.
Maintaining that the students are the leaders of tomorrow, he urged them to learn and imbibe traditional knowledge and practices so that they can pass down such knowledge to the younger generation.
Highlights of the event included exhibitions and competitions including folksong, dance, traditional attire, and Cistus Mr and Miss Tokhu. Earlier, Rev. Dr. Mhonyamo Ngullie, headmaster of CSW, expounded on significance of Tokhu Emong celebration.
