Cistus School observes cultural day

Wokha, Nov. 3 (EMN): Cistus School, Wokha, today conducted a cultural day event in the school premises, which was marked by display of traditional wear by students of Lower Kindergarten Group (LKG) and Under Kindergarten Group (UKG), folk tales by students from Classes I-IV, and cock fight, top spinning, catapult shooting by boys from Classes V and VI, while the girls displayed their skills on knitting.

Traditional fire making was displayed by students of Classes IX and X followed by top spinning, cock fight and catapult shooting by boy students from Classes VII to X and weaving and knitting by girls students of Classes VII to X.

On the occasion the school headmaster, Mhonyamo Ngullie, spoke on the importance to revive culture which is fast eroding among the younger generations due to modernisation. He advised the students not to forget the rich culture and traditions of the forefathers and suggested that every school and educational institute should shoulder and promote the esteemed cultural values.

He encouraged organising an annual cultural event in all the schools and colleges to inculcate and revive traditions. He said the rich culture and traditions of the Nagas is known to the world.

He also mentioned that the Lotha festival ‘Tokhü Emong,’ which is celebrated on November 7 every year is a day to come together to seek forgiveness, reconcile and to strengthen the relationship between brothers. He added that ‘Tokhü Emong’ is all about love- a season of merrymaking.

Students actively participated in all the events with traditional attires which was also witnessed by the parents.
