Churches in Kiphire and Noklak to remain closed

Dimapur, June 13 (EMN): Churches in Kiphire district and Noklak sub-division in Tuensang district have decided to remain closed till such time all individual churches are in a position to fulfil the criteria and conditions laid down by the government.

Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Sarita Yadav, had convened a meeting with the representatives from all the faith-based organisations on June 13 with regard to opening places of worship, a DIPR report stated.

Addressing the members, Yadav informed that an order was received from higher authority to sensitise faith-based organisation. Citing new SOPs where relaxation was made to open places of worship, she stated that only 30 per cent attendees would be allowed in order to maintain social distancing of 6 feet at any point of time. Stating that the allotted time would be from 5 am to 5 pm, she advised all to keep sanitisers/ thermal scanner.

Also speaking at the meeting, USBLA secretary Dr. Apise stated that every civil society and religious body must adhere to the guidelines issued by the authorities and endeavour to make the district Covid-free. In this regard, he informed that all Baptist churches in town would remain closed till further order. In a representation, Catholic churches have also decided to remain closed till further order.

In a similar programme, administration of Noklak sub-divisional held a consultative meeting with the church leaders including Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association, pastors and deacons of all the churches in an around Noklak headquarters on June 12 at DB Court to discuss on the matter pertaining to re-opening of churches for worship services.

The house has decided to maintain the status quo by keeping the church services in abeyance until such time all the individual churches are in a position to fulfil the criteria and conditions laid down by the government.
The house also identified the need for conducting seminar/training with regards to preparation of disinfectants and decided to approach the hospital authority for assistance and guidance.

During the meeting, Dr. Jongyah, MO PHC Thonoknyu, gave a short speech on the impact of stigmatisation and discrimination on the Covid-19 patients and returnees. Stressing on the effect of stigmatisation and discrimination, he called upon all to create awareness among the public.
