The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has so far arrested nine persons in connection with the murder case of Imkongjiba Kichu from Chungtia village who was found dead between Satier and New Camp area on February 22, a day after he and another person went missing following an attack by some unknown miscreants.
An update from Addl. Supdt. of Police & PRO, Mokokchung, informed that an FIR on the incident was lodged at the Police Station II on February 21, after which ‘an inquest was conducted in the presence of the Magistrate and other witnesses, while post mortem was conducted the following day’.
A murder case was registered at the Police Station II and district-level SIT headed by SPDO Mokokchung was set up to probe the murder case of a 34-year-old man.
During the investigation, various technical evidences including CDR, CCTV footages were collected and analysed; summoned and examined more than 30 people till the filing of this report, said the update.
Based on technical and other evidences, the SIT has arrested Chubanichet, 31, (Gypsy driver); Meyalepden, 49; Chepdakmayang, 28; Tongpangtsuba, 40; Lipoktemsu, 28; Imtizachet, 27; Supongsunep, 35; Temsuakum, 32; and Bendangsunep, 29, all from Chungtia village, in connection with the case, it added.
The SIT has also conducted Crime Scene Construction and recovered various evidences, including the suspect weapons from the crime scene in the presence of witnesses and magistrate, it said, adding that ‘investigation of the case is still ongoing’.
