The growing harassment, threat, and fear that the myriad Naga underground groups are inflicting on the common people in the name of “taxation” are forcing communities to take a stand against the scourge.
Civil organizations across Chumukedima have reaffirmed their commitment on the resolution of the public on February 13 where they made clear that no “tax” would be paid to any underground group till they form into one.
A copy of the civil societies’ ‘public notice’ was issued to the media on August 21. Chakhroma Public Organization, Chumukedima Village Council, Chumukedima ‘A’ Village Council, Chumukedima GBs’ Union, Chumukedima Town Youth Organization, Chumukedima Students’ Organization, Chumukedima Mothers’ Association, Tribal Union of Chumukedima, and Chumukedima Chamber of Commerce & Trade Association were the signatories.
The organizations issued the press release following growing “taxation” in Chumukedima by the underground groups.
“Public leaders representing different civil societies… issue this public notice that they will stand firm on the resolution taken in the general public rally at Chumukedima weekly bazaar wherein it was resolved unanimously to support ACAUT public rally on the 31st October 2013,” the notice stated. The notice reiterate the concept of ‘one government, one tax,’ and demand for setting up of “HPC.”
Besides the resolution, the organizations have also reminded that the public would “excommunicate or cancel trade license against the defaulters.”
