Kohima, Dec. 7 (EMN): The 48th general session of the Sakraba Youth Organisation (SYO) got underway at Sakraba Village local ground in Phek district with Chuba Ozukum, Consultant, Department of Justice and Law, Government of Nagaland as inaugural guest.

Addressing the event, Ozukum said sports is one of the most human activities while it is also part of education, adding that it has many health benefits. He maintained that many have risen from rural and humble beginnings, and encouraged the youths to be determined to achieve great in life, hard working and also dream big.

The guest also challenged the village to raise a leader from the village in order to have a representative at the legislative assembly and further carry forward the village for development and progress.

Further, he also laid emphasis on the need for preservation and promotion of indigenous sports.

Earlier, the presidential address was delivered by Nupoyi D Vadeo, while a folk dance was performed by Sunday School Students of Sakraba Baptist Church (SBC) and the programme was chaired by Lehu Lohe. During the three-day events, four khels — Lohe, Hesuh, Basa ‘A’ and Basa ‘B’ — will be competing in various sports disciplines; the closing ceremony will be held on December 10.
