Chozuba Area Sports Association lift 37th PDSA Meet championship trophy

Kohima, April 15 (EMN): Host team Chozuba Area Sports Association (CASA) emerged champions of the 37th Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) Meet 2023  at Chozuba Town after securing 30 medals – 14 gold, eight silver and one bronze.

CASA received a cash prize of INR 2,00,000 along with the Late Vamuzo Memorial Trophy.

Chokri Area Games and Sports Association secured the second position with 31 medals – 10 gold, 17 silver and four bronze, while Centre Chakhesang Sports Association secured third position with 10 medals – four gold, three silver and bronze each.

Khezha Kuzha Tephe Sports Association (KKTSA) was awarded the best disciplined team.

Mulusayi Medeo of Chozuba area with three gold medals – 400 m sprint (0.57.25), 800 m race (02.12.04) and 1500 m race (4.38.47) – secured the best athlete award of Phek district for the second time.

Further, Choyivelu Nienu of Phek Area Sports Association (PASA) and Chekrotalu Khusoh of CASA were awarded the best women athletes with three gold medals each. Nienu won three gold medals in 100m dash (0:14.53), Long Jump (4.48m) and Triple jump (9.61m), while Khusoh won three gold medals in 800m race (02:48.63), 1500 m race (06:06.47) and 3000m race (15:12.00).

On the last day, a thrilling football final match was played between CASA and KKTSA. KKTSA scored the first goal through Rhitsho Mero in the 20th minute but Chozuba captain, Punuru Nienu found the equaliser, scoring directly through a corner kick in the 27th minute.

The second half saw a super substitute, Phito Nienu scoring the second goal in the 85th minute. Yhoto Lohe finished the game in the 90th minute scoring a stunner to help the host team secure the trophy.

CASA defeated KKTSA 3-1.

Lhiweto Koza, the goalkeeper of KKTSA, was given the best goalkeeper, while Yhoto Lohe (CASA) with six goals, was the highest goal scorer of the tournament.

The player of the tournament was given to Vekudu Keyho of CASA.

In women’s football, KKTSA overcame CASA via a penalty tie breaker 3-2 after the final match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Player of the tournament was awarded to Vesapralü Dozo (CASA) and highest scorer to Lhüvekholu Tetseo (CASA).

Meanwhile, CASA defeated three times defending champion KKTSA 27-23 to win the men’s basketball title. Aggi Tunyi from Chokri Area was awarded the most valuable player of the championship.

In women’s basketball, Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) defended their title for the second time as they outclassed CASA 24-2 in the finals to take the championship title.

Ravolu Nyekha of Chokri area was awarded the most valuable player for women’s basketball.

In volleyball, CASA defended its men’s volleyball title for the fourth time defeating Chokri Area by three straight sets, winning 25-22, 25-16, 25-17.

The best spiker award was given to Mulusayi Medeo (CASA) and best setter to Nusato Phesao (CASA).

It may be mentioned that Chozuba area has now won the Phek district volleyball championship eight times.

In women’s volleyball, CASA defeated Chokri area 27-25, 25-22 in the final match to clinch the title.

The best spiker was given to Kuzhopolu Medeo (CAGSA) and best setter to Dzuvevolu Rhakho (CASA).
