CHILDLINE: How it Works/For Social Awareness

CHILDLINE Dimapur, while working for the welfare of children in need and distress, has various categories under which the case related and concerned child is given specific assistance. The various categories and its details are listed below for referral and better awareness.

MEDICAL

This category deals with minors living on the street, abandoned children and children of single parent who are economically unable to sustain the children and in immediate need of medical treatment.

Assistance is given in the form of finding blood donors, finding sponsors for medical assistance, seeking concessions from treatment centres and hospitals and providing nutritional supplements.

MISSING

  1. Parents Asking for Help (PAH): This category deals with children nowhere to be found, school and family related problem children, runaway from home alone or with friends, elopement with a minor or in some cases both minors, kidnapping and trafficking of minors.

Assistance is given in the form of helping parents to lodge FIRs, referring the case to other CHILDLINE centres, informing other NGOs and creating awareness of the case through the print and social media.

  1. Child Lost: Child Lost category deals with runaway children, children disowned by the family, chased out from home and found by the police, NGOs, concerned adults and brought to CHILDLINE. It also deals with children who suffers domestic violence, physical or emotional abuse and due to it has ran away from home or from his/her workplace and has gone or reported missing.

Assistance to these children are provided in the form of offering shelter, medical assistance, clothing and nutritional supplements, counselling, tracing out the family and restoration.

RESTORATION:

This category deals mainly in tracing out the family or relatives of the child, providing counselling and shelter, clothing and nutrition and restoration of the child to his/her biological parents or concerned guardian.

SHELTER:

In the shelter home, the child is given proper counselling and guidance, provided with clothes and nutrition and later restores the child to his/her biological parents or guardian after tracing out the home and address of the family.

REFERRED BY CHILDLINE:

With centres all over the country, cases are referred from other centres and vice-versa.  The referred child is handed over and given proper counselling and guidance, provided with clothes and nutrition and later restores the child to his/her biological parents or guardian after tracing out the home and address of the family.

CONFLICT WITH LAW:

Children in conflict with law cases are given proper counselling and guidance, and basing on the case recieved, re-directed to District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) or Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU).

COUNSELLING:

In this category, emotional support and guidance and counselling is given to children struggling with substance abuse, problematic children, school related physical, mental, emotional abuse cases and suffering and traumatized children of family discord.

UNCLASSIFIED:

Children affected by school related issues like teenage delinquency acts, expelled from school, financial assistance in special cases of losing both parents tragically and indirect intervention where the case is forwarded to the relevant and competent authorities.

ABUSE:

Deals with children of sexual abuse, domestic violence, physical and emotional abuse and abuse through lure of financial gain.

CHILDLINE Dimapur solicits every discerning individual, child as well as adult, to report any incident of child abuse ( physical,mental, sexual,etc), missing children, child found loitering around lost or abandoned, or any minor in distress situation, at the 24×7 toll free number, 1098.
