DIMAPUR — Chhath Puja, a significant festival for Bhojpuri, Maithili, and other communities from Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Nepal, was celebrated with religious fervour on the banks of the River Dhansiri and other places in Dimapur.

An update mentioned that the Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj (NBS) had made elaborate arrangements for the devotees at the banks of the river at Urra village, which brought together the local Bhojpuri community and residents from various backgrounds.

Earlier, the festival began with a traditional ‘Nahai-Khai’ ritual on November 5, followed by ‘Kharna’ on November 6. The main attraction of the celebration was the evening Arghya (offering) to the setting sun on November 7, where devotees prayed and presented offerings in knee-deep water.

The event saw a large turnout of devotees from Dimapur and surrounding areas, with many families participating in the rituals, singing traditional Bhojpuri songs.

The festival will conclude on November 8, where devotees will pay obeisance to the rising sun and break their fast.

The Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj has expressed gratitude to Dimapur district administration and police for granting permission to organise the puja besides relaxing the traffic during the puja hours.

It also extended gratitude to the SDRF team for their presence in the river, to act in case of any eventualities, and to the Urra Village Council for their all-time support and cooperation in the celebration of the festival.

NPF Minority Wing extends greetings

Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Minority Wing has extended Chhath Puja greetings and best wishes to the Hindu citizens of Nagaland.

In a press statement, Minority Wing president Bishnu Bhattacharjee, on behalf of its members, wished for the ‘Sun God’ Chhatte Maayia to shower blessings upon each person and strengthen tranquillity, brotherhood, and harmony among the different communities of Nagaland on the occasion.
