Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): Grand master Ankit Rajpara landed at Dimapur Airport with the Chess Olympiad Torch on Sunday afternoon.
According to a DIPR report, the grand master Rajpara will arrive at the Heritage, old DC Bungalow, on Monday with the torch, where the Nagaland Chess Association will be organising a Blitz tournament to mark the 1st ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022.
“Mention may be made that the 44th edition of the Chess Olympiad has been awarded by the World Chess Federation ( FIDE) to the All India Chess Federation ( AICF) scheduled to be held at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from July 28 to August 10, 2022,” the report stated.
To mark the event being held in India, FIDE has instituted the Chess Olympiad Torch Rally covering 75 iconic locations of the country as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chess Association has informed that there will be cash prizes for the under- 18 and under -14 categories during the Blitz tournament and has extended invitation to the chess players, chess enthusiasts, parents and chess lovers to witness the Olympiad Rally.
