Changtongya peddles clean message in colors

A Swachh Bharat Mission-sponsored drawing competition for Changtongya was held on November 14 in Oriental School in Changtongya, under Mokokchung district. The theme of the event was ‘Help to clean our Changtongya,’ and organized by the sub-divisional education office of Changtongya.
Chumloamo Humtsoe, sub-divisional officer (civil) of Changtongya, spoke during the occasion as the chief guest. He talked about the importance of a clean country ‘which should start from our school, house, village and towns.’Everyone is a part of the mission, the officer said, and they must contribute in whatever capacity they can ‘to make our town clean and green.’ He also urged the students to spread the message of cleanliness for the success of the mission and in making the town free of waste.The programme was chaired by C. Moatemsu Longkumer, chairman of Oriental School. The vote of thanks was offered by I. Alemeren Longchar, JEO of SDEO office in Changtongya. Tiarenla of Oriental School treated the gathering to a song during the event.
The drawing competition was divided into three categories. In the senior category, the winners were Limanungla, a class-X student won the first prize; Sentikala, a class-VII student won the second prize. In the junior category, Imlitula, a student of class-V from Oriental School bagged the first prize and Purtemsu, a class-V student also of Oriental school bagged the second place. In the sub-junior category, the winners were Kisangwala, a class-III student of oriental school who bagged the first prize while Mongchenarmen, a class-III student of Oriental School bagged the second prize.
Swachh Bharat Mission is a national campaign by the Government of India, covering 4,041 statutory cities and towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. The campaign was officially launched on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself cleaned the road. It was performed in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi’s words. It is India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive and 3 million government employees and school and college students of India participated in this event.
