Changtongya celebrates Mangkonang festival to promote tourism

Dimapur, October 25: Mangkonang festival was celebrated at Ain Hemtu Resort (Swimming Pool) in Changtongya on October 20 and 21, organised by Sub-Divisional Department Co-Ordination Forum Changtongya (SDDCF) with Chumlamo Humtsoe, SDO (Civil), Changtongya, as the chief guest of the inaugural function.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest exhorted that the festival was celebrated to bring unity, better relationship and brotherhood among all the villages in the sub-division. He was optimistic that young generation will be enriched with rich culture and tradition through observing the festival and also enabled them to expose their talent in the field of music by providing them a platform. He urged one and all to encourage such events.
The purpose of celebrating the festival, according to him, was to promote the sub-division as a tourist spot. As the venue is located on National Highway 2, he urged the public to take full advantage stating that the festival will be organised as a yearly event. He further encouraged all the people to be good ambassadors for the success of the festival in the years to come.He expressed gratitude to Tiasunep Longkumer, proprietor of the Ain Humtu Resort (Swimming Pool), for providing the place to organise the Mangkonang festival.
The programme was chaired by Chubakokla Longkumer. Short speech was delivered by village council chairman, Changtongya.
Highlights of the inaugural day included Mangkonang melody presented by Watsu Unit, Changtongya, while cultural dance and song were presented by students of Christian Standard Higher Secondary School, Changtongya, and Government Middle School, Akhoya.
Other highlights included musical presentation by X-Troopers from Changtongya, Ajungla, finalist Naga Idol 2014, and special appearance by Purnuker from Dimapur.
On the second day, Mangkonang festival live concert was performed by DGP band from Kohima and Fusion band from Mokokchung.
Various stalls were opened at the venue during the festival by Akhoya Students’ Union, Changtongya Yimsen Students’ Union, Children Carnival by Changtongya Students’ Union, handicraft items by Ao Students’ Union Changtongya Town and tambola by Veteran Football Club, Changtongya town.
