Dimapur, Nov. 8 (EMN): In connection with the ensuing special summary revision of photo electoral roll with respect to January 1, 2023, as the qualifying date, a briefing with electoral roll observers (EROs) was held at the chief electoral officer’s office chamber in Kohima, on November 7.
An update from the Election department informed that the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar, has stressed on the importance of a healthy and error-free electoral rolls for conduct of elections, which is at the heart of democracy.
Shekhar also highlighted on the recent amendments in the election laws, particularly the introduction of multiple qualifying days for enrolment in the electoral roll and collection of Aadhaar data from the electors on voluntary basis for linking and authentication of electoral rolls data.
He pointed out that, as representatives of Election Commission, the roll observers play an important role in bringing out a defect-free and authentic electoral roll for conduct of future elections.
Report stated that necessary guidelines, checklist, reporting formats, etc., were issued during the briefing.
The briefing meeting was attended by additional CEO, Ruokuovituo Khezhie, and joint CEOs, Sharon Longchari and Awa Lorin.
Kesonyu Yhome, Anenla T Sato, Vikeyie Kenya, V Maria Yanthan, Kenilo Apon and Obangla Jamir have been appointed as electoral roll observers by the Election Commission of India, it stated.
The electoral roll observers will be undertaking three visits to their respective assigned districts during the period of summary revision till the publication of final electoral roll, it added.
