Centuries of dramatic monologues come alive at SJU

DIMAPUR — The drama club and the department of English at St. Joseph University (SJU) organised a ‘Dramatic monologues they’ll remember you by,’ centred on the theme ‘A celebration of dramatic arts,’ on Tuesday at the university auditorium.

According to an update received here, during the formal session, Dr. Khelsoril Wanbe highlighted drama as an essential genre of literature. He emphasised that engaging in dramatic activities can enhance confidence, self-esteem, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

He further stated that drama and its various aspects can contribute to cultural promotion and bring about transformations in society.

In the following session, Lanuakum Pongen, a second-semester MA student, compared the monologues. This was followed by presentations of 17th century monologues by second-semester MA students.

Subsequently, fourth-semester BA participants presented 18th-century monologues, while fourth-semester MA students presented 19th century monologues. The 20th century monologues were presented by sixth-semester BA students. Lastly, second-semester BA students presented monologues from the 21st century.

Tokaholi Chishi performed a song followed by a monologue from the movie ‘Dead Poets Society’, the update mentioned.
