CEC Dimapur organises seminar on quality improvement in higher education

Dimapur, Jan. 31 (EMN): The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), C-Edge College (CEC) Dimapur organised a two-day national seminar on “Quality Sustenance and Quality Enhancement Measures in Higher Education” in collaboration with The Morung Express on Jan. 28 and 29th.

An update from the institute informed that the seminar was virtually held. It was sponsored by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

During the inaugural session (Jan. 28), Lito Zhimomi was the chairperson, while Er. Moa Aier, President CEC welcomed and introduced all the dignitaries, keynote speakers, paper presenters and the participants, while briefing on the theme of the seminar.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Chubatola Aier, Principal CEC mentioned that education is the mainspring on which the destiny and quality of a nation and the people rest upon, adding that the need for such deliberations and follow-up action cannot be overstated.

The first technical session focused on the sub-theme, “Student Satisfaction Survey (Ss) and its impact on Quality Enhancement, Efficient Development and Delivery of Curriculum”, which was moderated by Prof. Amalesh Bhowal, dept. of Commerce, Assam University, Diphu Campus.

Presenting the first paper of the session, Lipokmarla, and Dr. S Victor Anandkumar from Pondicherry University spoke on, ‘Quality of Service Delivery of Online Classes’. The second paper titled, ‘Analytical Study of Quality Control Issues of Online and Offline Evaluation in the Higher Education Sector in Nagaland’ was presented by Dr. Rosy Tep of Tetso College Dimapur, while Duvolu Rhakho, and Kaikho Loli of C-Edge College presented on, ‘Student Satisfaction Survey and its impact on Quality Enhancement’. Anjan Behera of Tetso College presented the last paper titled, ‘Metamorphosis of Higher Education in Nagaland: A Case Study of Tetso College’s response to the pandemic’, it stated.

The session concluded with a volley of interactions an a plenary lecture by Professor Rama Mathew, ELT Consultant and former Dean of Education, Delhi University on the topic, “What is Quality in Higher Education and how do we sustain it and how do we improve it?.” The speaker highlighted on some key issues regarding quality teaching/learning and how educators can keep track of their work in educating the younger generation and in the process be educated.

The second technical session (Jan. 29) was based on the sub-theme, “Gender, Linguistic Issues and Human Resource Management in Higher Education System”, which was moderated by Dr. Hormila G. Zingkhai, Assistant Professor of St. Joseph’s Autonomous College Jakhama.

Wapangsenla Imchen, Assistant Professor of ICFAI University Nagaland presented the first paper on the topic, ‘Faculty Training and Development and Human Resource Accounting: A Study of HEIs in Nagaland’, while the second paper on ‘Gender Inequality in access to Higher Education in India’ was presented by Dr. Biswajit Paul, and Dr. Manash Das of Karimganj College, Assam. Dr. Sita Malakar, Assistant Professor of St. John College Dimapur spoke on ‘Impact of Patriarchal Society and Gender Inequality in Higher Education’ and Dr. Mhonthung Yanthan, Assistant Professor of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama presented the last paper on the topic, ‘Challenges of Academic Leadership in Nagaland: A Growing Imperative in Higher Education System’.

Meanwhile, the third technical session (Jan. 29) focused on the sub-theme, “Ethics and Values in Higher Education System and Life Skill Education, Skills Development, Personality Development”, which was moderated by Dr. Praveen Patrick, Assistant Professor of St. Joseph University, Nagaland.

The first paper titled, ‘Ethics and Values in Higher Education System’ was delivered by Dipali Kirtani, PGT Teacher of Indira Gandhi Memorial School Kolkata, while Neikerheno Secu, Assistant Professor of C-Edge College spoke on ‘Ethics and Values in Higher Education’. A special presentation on the topic ‘Skills Development and Personality Development’ was given by Wapanginla Ao, Academic Dean of C-Edge College.

The session ended with a plenary lecture by Shanavas C, Principal Director of School Education department, government of Nagaland on the topic, “Career Oriented Higher Education Systems in Nagaland: Where we are now and the road ahead?”.

It said that the seminar concluded with a valedictory programme, chaired by Nokchachila Longkumer, Assistant Professor C-Edge College. In his valedictory address, Dr. Watijungshi, retired Additional Director of Higher Education Nagaland and present board member of NAAC and Academic and Administrative Audit shared his experience of visiting 25 colleges in Nagaland. He encouraged the participants to retrospect their learning experience from the webinar to incorporate the best practices in their institutions.

It added that Dr. Patrick Praveen, Assistant Professor of St. Joseph University, Nagaland gave the concluding remarks, while Wapanginla Ao, Convenor of the Seminar delivered the vote of thanks.
