Kohima, June 30

The Chakhesang Baptist Church Ministers’ Hill Kohima, Sunday School Ministry observed a 6-day Vacation Bible School from June 24 to 29 last.
Vacation Bible School can be traced back to Hopedale, Illinois in 1894 when a Sunday School teacher D.T. Miles, who also was a public school teacher, felt she was limited by time constraints in teaching the Bible to children. So, she started a daily Bible school to teach children during the summer. The first Bible school enrolled forty students and lasted four weeks. Today, VBS usually consists of a week-long program of religious education which may employ Bible stories, religious song, arts and crafts, skits, or puppet shows which cater towards children between ages of 6-13.
Akhrole Ngachu, Sunday Superintendent said that every year the enrolment of students are increasing and it’s encouraging to see so many children turning up for VBS which is an intensive and attractive package for children to know the gospel, and instill seeds of foundation for spiritual growth. The summer camp was attended by close to 500 children and over 40 teachers under the theme “You are Special”.
Keviseyienuo Belho spoke on the last service and told children and the congregation to consider each one of ourselves as ‘Special’, saying, ‘if we consider ourselves special, then we learn to accept others as special too.’ The VBS 2014 concluded with a slew of talented performances by children in the afternoon. Many believers both parents and children were blessed.
