SECHÜ-ZUBZA — Rev. Dr. Sherman Kuek, a professor at Christian Institute for Theological Engagement (CHRISTE), Malaysia, called upon the Catholic youth to live an exemplary life basing on the teaching of gospel and contribute positively to society.

Rev. Dr. Kuek stated this during the ongoing golden jubilee celebration of the Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) coinciding with its 33rd triennial convention on the third day at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) in Sechü-Zubza on Sunday. He told the youth that the event was no coincidence but part of God’s deliberate plan.

A former protestant pastor and lecturer, Rev. Dr. Kuek emphasised the richness of Christian life through embracing the teachings of the Catholic Church, rooted in the principles of Christ. Reflecting on the challenges he faced during his conversion to Catholicism, Re. Dr. Kuek conveyed to the youth that God has a purpose for Catholic youth — to be responsible citizens, contributing positively to society and influencing the secular realm to spread the gospel. He asserted that as Catholics, answers to life’s questions are always available.

During the jubilee Eucharist, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Nagaland, congratulated the office bearers and director of ACYA for their meticulous planning and execution of the golden jubilee celebration.

In his homily, the bishop emphasised the importance of courageously fulfilling their roles as committed disciples of Jesus. He also highlighted God’s boundless love without favoritism.

Besides, he also challenged the youth to imbibe qualities such as lowliness, meekness, patience and love. In this regard, he urged the youth of Nagaland to exemplify moral and spiritual uprightness in all aspects of life. He also persuaded the youth to courageously march forward without counting the cost while assuring that God would reward for the sacrifices made.

The occasion was also marked with Eucharistic procession while ACYA jubilee choir and Kohima town ACYA presented songs.

Meanwhile, a new ACYA team for tenure 2024-2027 was blessed by the bishop during the golden jubilee celebrations. The team is led by Beituo Cyril as president, Letuozo Patrick as vice president, Menuotuonuo Monica Kera as general secretary, Metevinü Lucy Kikhi as joint secretary, Mhasivilie Mathew as music secretary, Zhomeyienu Marina as treasurer, Keneilezo Cyril and Neingutuo Dominic as representatives to NCYM.

It has also appointed  Kelhouneizo Kenneth as president of Northern ACYA (NACYA) and Keneiü Mary as general secretary; Kevinguto James Meyase as president of Kohima town ACYA and Pelesanuo Julie Pienyü as general secretary; Ruokuo John as president of Chakhro ACYA and Keneilenu Sophia as general secretary; Thepfulhubi Thomas as president of Western ACYA and Seyievino Sophi as general secretary; Kenongunu Cynthia Soleho  as general secretary of Southern ACYA.
