Campaign on preventing child trafficking held in Mon
DIMAPUR — A campaign on preventing and combating child trafficking in 100 bordering districts of India organised by the National Commission for Protecting of Child Rights (NCPCR), in collaboration with State Commission for Protection for Child Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) and district administration of Mon, was conducted at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office in Mon town on June 7.
Tongpang L Jamir, advocate at Guwahati High Court, Kohima bench, and resource person of the campaign, highlighted the statistics of human trafficking in general and child trafficking in particular.
He pointed out that Nagaland has a high rate of trafficking due to its geographical location. One of the main reasons for trafficking, according to him, is poverty and lack of awareness, stated a DIPR report.
He gave a pictorial and descriptive measure on the features of trafficking and how to respond in such situations. He also spoke on the preventive measures and encouraged all the stakeholders to come together and combat the issue strongly.
The campaign was chaired by protection officer (DCPU), M Alem Konyak, while the welcome address was delivered by district child protection officer, Sevehu Chuzo, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Tangjum Konyak, social worker (DCPU).
Report stated that various stakeholders such as the district administration, police, DCPU, CWC, JJB, Child Helpline, SAA, staff if Children Home, Observation Home and civil society organisations from KU, KSU and KNSK participated in the campaign.
