CAD Foundation conducts advocacy programme on HIV

DIMAPUR — Community Awareness and Development (CAD) Foundation, under its link workers scheme (LWS) project, organised an advocacy programme on HIV/AIDS and health camp in Ekranipathar and Eralibill villages on August 28 and 29 respectively.

In Ekranipathar village, the LWS zonal supervisor, Kukholu Keyho, shared the basics of HIV infection by indulging in risk factors such as unprotected sexual activities and sharing contaminated unsterile needles and syringes. She stated that it is vital to test and start treatment immediately for HIV.

With access to effective HIV treatment, she stated that HIV has become a manageable chronic health condition by enabling people living with HIV to lead a normal and healthy life.

She urged the community to create an enabling environment by strengthening to diminish the stigma and discrimination attached to HIV.

During the health camp, Khrongope-o Ritse, community health officer at the Health and Wellness Centre, Aoyimti, provided pre and post-test counselling on HIV to 18 individuals who volunteered for HIV screening.

It stated that a total of 44 villagers from various age groups availed general consultation and were tested for blood pressure and sugar.

On August 29 in Eralibill village, Khrongope-o Ritse spoke on the basics of HIV, routes of transmission, prevention and care. The team provided physical health check-ups, blood pressure and sugar test and also administered immunisation to newborn babies besides providing pre and post-test counseling for HIV.

It stated that a total of 38 individuals availed general check-ups and also received free medicines, while 19 individuals volunteered for HIV screening.
