In an emergency Cabinet meeting held on March 18 at the residential office of the Chief Minister Nagaland, T.R Zeliang, the Cabinet has decided for handing over the investigation of police case relating to lynching of a rape accused in judicial custody by mob at Dimapur on March 5, to the CBI. The Cabinet deliberated on the situation out of the incident involving the taking out of Syed Farid Khan, a rape accused from judicial custody in Central Jail, Dimapur and lynching him on March 5 in Dimapur.
Considering the widespread attention invited by the incident nationally and internationally, and demands made by several organizations to hand over the case to CBI, and also due to involvement of large number of people in the incident the Cabinet has decided to hand over the case to CBI.
