Blood separation unit at NHAK not functional, says Nagaland legislator
DIMAPUR— A blood separation unit comprising 27 items, which was supplied to the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) in October 2020 at the cost of INR 72.78 lakh, was found to be not functional due to defective equipment, during a spot verification conducted by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) team led by Advisor to Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, on Friday.
The PAC team inspected the availability and condition of various equipment at the NHAK, including life-saving equipment, diagnostic and therapeutic machines such as ultra sonogram, computerized EG machines, cardiac monitor, ventilators, photo therapy units, ENT equipment and others, said an update from DIPR.
It also inspected the status of the blood bank and functionality of all the equipment as well as the Tele-ICU Hub which provides critical healthcare services remotely to all the 10-bedded ICU wards across the state.
Highlighting the challenges, the NHAK officials briefed the visiting team about the need for a multi-level parking facility and also discussed the potential conversion of an old structure into a standard hospital building in a phased manner.
To ensure uninterrupted power supply, the hospital officials also requested for a separate and dedicated sub-station and a transformer.
Yanthan lauded the facilities available at the hospital as well as the dedication and efficiency of the officers. Acknowledging the challenges related to fund resources and land issues, he assured to place their suggestions to the government.
