BJP demands re-poll at three polling stations under 59 Seyochung-Sitimi AC
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded re-poll at three polling stations under the 59 Seyochung-Sitimi Assembly Constituency (AC) citing alleged ‘booth capturing by NPP supporters through threats and intimidation’.
In a letter addressed to the Returning Officer (RO) of Kiphire, BJP candidate V Kashiho Sangtam demanded re-poll at Changchor village polling No. 28; and Kisetong village polling stations No.30 and No. 44.
It went on to claim that observing the disruption of law and order situation by the NPP at the polling stations, the BJP 59 A/C requested for security back up but the authority paid no heed to the request.
It further alleged that NPP voters “pounced on the polling agent”, while the other voters “sensing danger escaped to their homes”. The NPP captured all the voters slip and cast all the votes in the presence of presiding officer, it stated.
Sangtam highlighted ‘rampant proxy voting as well as multiple voter presence’ inside the polling booths in the presence of all polling personals, adding that the presiding officer at polling station 30 issued over 360 token to ‘non- existent electorates, even after 4 pm.’
Internet services shut-down
In lieu of the prevailing situation, the Government of Nagaland on Tuesday ordered shut-down of internet/ data services in Kiphire district under Section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, with immediate effect till further orders.
The notification, issued by Nagaland Home Commissioner, Abhijit Sinha, stated that the order is to prevent the misuse of the media from flaring up the tension in the district and prevent the breach of public peace and tranquility.
