New Delhi, April 7 (IANS): The BJP on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities by AAP mentioned in the Shunglu Committee report that has accused the Delhi government of abuse of power and nepotism in making appointments.

It also said that Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) also can take up the matter owing to nature of the accusations.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi told media persons here that the report showed how the Aam Aadmi Party government “splurged” public money on foreign tours and abused power to make illegal appointments of unqualified people and relatives to top positions.

Lekhi added that the AAP government has cheated the people of Delhi and looted the public exchequer.

Reacting to the AAP expressing doubts about the timing of the Shunglu report being made public ahead of the municipal elections, Lekhi said: “We do not find anything doubtful. Rather their (AAP government) functioning is doubtful.”

A three-member committee headed by former Comptroller and Auditor General V.K. Shunglu reviewed 404 files of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s government to allege there were irregularities with various appointments and other decisions.

The report questioned the appointment of Soumya Jain, daughter of Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, as an adviser to Mission Director of Mohalla Clinic project, which has won global praise for providing free healthcare.

The committee also raised questions on the appointment of Nikunj Agarwal, a relative of Kejriwal’s wife, as Officer on Special Duty to the Health Minister.
