DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor and chairman of North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) La Ganesan said that the ‘Bharat Ko Janno’ programme stands as a testament of the country’s unity in diversity, exemplifying the rich and varied cultural traditions that each region proudly nurtures.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Bharat Ko Janno programme held at Manan Kendra, Gangtok, Sikkim on June 14, the governor said that the event is a demonstration of the shared commitment to the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of precious folk art and culture, stated an update from PRO Raj Bhavan.

“It brings together an extraordinary assembly of artistes from different zonal cultural centres across the country, each adding their unique hues to this colourful cultural event,” Ganesan said.

And as the people celebrate the vibrant plurality of India’s cultural heritage through the Bharat Janno programme, he extended his appreciation to the NEZCC under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for organising the festival.

He also said that through initiatives like ‘Discover India,’ the country strives to connect border people through culture, a mission that starts with understanding and appreciating the unique cultures “within our own borders.”

“And witnessing the performances and exhibitions, we are reminded of the profound heritage that our forefathers have passed down to us. Folk art and culture are not merely artistic expressions; they are the lifeblood of our communities, encapsulating our history, values, and dreams for the future. These traditions foster a sense of identity and belonging, bridging the gaps between generations and geographic boundaries,” he said.

The governor went on to state that in the rapidly modernising world, it is more important than ever to hold onto these cultural treasures. He said festivals like Bharat Jano provide a platform for the artistes to showcase their skills, ensuring that these traditions continue to thrive and inspire.

They also play a critical role in fostering unity among our diverse communities, promoting mutual respect and understanding, he added.

Ganesan commended the tireless efforts of everyone involved in making the event a reality.

“Their dedication to cultural preservation is commendable and sets a fine example for all, as this festival is organised with the objective of preservation, promotion and dissemination of the folk art and culture of the region within and outside the region,” he said.

The governor further felt that the Bharat Jano programme will not only strengthen cultural ties within the North East region, but will also build bridges with other regions across India.

“We should immerse ourselves in the rich cultural experience that is on offer today, celebrating the vibrant diversity that makes our nation truly incredible,” he added.
