Bhandari declared first 100% LED covered town in Wokha

Dimapur, Oct. 23 (EMN): On Oct. 21, Bhandari town was declared as the first 100% LED covered town under Wokha district and stated to be the second in Nagaland.
The chief guest of the declaration programme, Commissioner & Secretary M Patton in his speech said achieving 100% LED covered status by the town was indeed a commendable day which is also a sign of progress and development of the sub-division.
“Through scientific and research works mankind has progressed a long way and has reached a stage where we have the choice to use health friendly and energy efficient products such as LED lights which is a shift from the earlier use of heat generating and energy consuming lighting systems and oil lamps in the olden days,” Patton added.
Power conservation, preservation of energy, proper management as well as its sensible use is every one’s bounden responsibility not only to maintain our economy but to save ourselves from energy crisis which we are already experiencing, he said. Further, he said a bigger crisis in near future can be envisaged if we neglect the issue of saving power and energy today.
Secretary to Government of Nagaland and President Lotha Officers’ Association T MhabemoYanthan, in his greetings lauded Minister for Geology & Mining and Border Affairs Mmhonlumo Kikon, for persuading the scheme with personal interest and for taking initiatives to bring it to the people’s doorstep by teaming up with the civil administration for implementation to the fullest.
He said if implementation is carried out under the supervision of the civil administration the programme will succeed throughout the sub division.
Stressing on interdependence of man, eco-system and environment, he suggested that the people of the town should plant at least 10,000 trees around their localities during the World Environment Day 2018.
GB Longshi Odyuo appealed the Lotha Officers’ Association to continue in guiding and encouraging the younger generation to take pride and uphold the valuable age old traditions and customs of the Lothas.
He lamented that many folklores, handicrafts, hand woven products, tools and implements etc., which were passed down to by the forefathers were gradually diminishing. Therefore, he called upon the LOA to take steps to restore the disappearing legacies of the forefathers. He also expressed concern over the ignorant of the younger generation about traditional etiquettes or bindings.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bhandari T Nchumbemo Odyuo, in his welcome address highlighted the implementation process of the LED lighting system and sensitisation programmes organised for the public. Besides street lights, the ADC informed that 11,000 bulbs are procured for town and villages of the sub-division and out of which 131 bulbs were given free of cost to the underprivileged section of the society. He also added that currently all together 513 households are covered.
Others who spoke at the programme were SDPO Bhandari James Jami, member LLRPO Jungithung Yanthan, and presidents of Mhankai Okho, ELoe Hoho Bhandari, and BTSU.
The attendees also pledged to adopt the LED lighting system at home and work place henceforth.
