DIMAPUR — The Niuland division of Social Welfare department has launched Beti Bachao Beti Padhrao (BBBP) on June 1 in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office.
Delivering the keynote address, the Niuland DC, Sara S Jamir, informed that the overall goal of BBBP scheme was to celebrate the girl child, ensure her protection, enable her education and her participation in the society.
She encouraged the members to plant five trees for the birth of every girl child throughout the district.
The resource speaker and district welfare officer, Sentimenla, has stressed on the need to create awareness and provide support and guidance to the girl child. She also sensitised the members on the services such as Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Women Helpline and Mahila Shakti Kendra.
The function was chaired by SDO (C) Niuland and attended by the GBs, DB and VCC of villages under Niuland Sadar, local and area Sumi Totimi Hoho and line departments.
The programme was followed with a plantation of tree sapling by the deputy commissioner of Niuland.
