Bar delegation calls on CJI, apprises him on separate High Court for Nagaland
Dimapur, July 13 (EMN): The Chief Justice of India (CJI), NV Ramana, on Tuesday said that his office would immediately give effect to the separate High Court for the state of Nagaland once the Centre government gives the nod, “provided the state has the required infrastructure in place, for which he will send a team for inspection”.
He said this when a six-member delegation of High Court Bar Association, Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court, called on him on Tuesday evening.
The CJI also told the delegation that the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, had already apprised him in detail about the setting up of a separate High Court for the state, informed an update from the Bar delegation.
Rio had met CJI last month and sought his support for establishment of a High Court for Nagaland.
“On being invited by the Bar to visit Nagaland, the Hon’ble CJI said that he will ensure at his level to see that Nagaland gets a separate High Court as early as possible, so that he can come. He stated that he has had discussion with both the Hon’ble Union Minister for Law & Justice and the Hon’ble Union Minister for Home and assured that he will further follow up with the Union Ministry,” read the update.
It was informed that the delegation also visited the office of the registrar of the Supreme Court (SC), Mezivolu T Therieh, who facilitated their meeting with the CJI and Secretary General of the SC.
The delegation also called on the chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI), who assured to help and ‘co-operation for separate Bar Council once the state gets a separate High Court and also to help in the matter of professional law institute’.
The update went on to inform that the delegation will meet the Union Minister of State, PMO, in-charge of the Northeast on Wednesday.
