Dimapur, March 22 (EMN): Banking institutions have been urged to conduct financial literacy programmes in the rural areas. Administrator Rajesh Soudararajan told officials during a meeting recently that financial literacy programmes can provide a platform for beneficiaries to avail various schemes while also creating awareness about digital transactions.

The District Consultative Committee of Kohima met on March 18 in the DC’s conference hall in the capital town.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soudararajan discussed various issues with bankers and district officials concerning the banking services. He suggested that the bankers conduct financial literacy programmes in the rural areas. Such events can provide a platform for beneficiaries to avail various schemes while also creating awareness about digital transactions, it was observed.

The deputy commissioner also requested the banking institutions to expedite mobile and Aadhar seeding on priority. Soundararajan asked them to achieve 100% seeding of Aadhar and mobile numbers by March 31 and to submit a report.

Also, Assistant General Manager Bendang Aier said during the meeting that the NABARD had been extending support toward conducting programmes. He said that financial literacy programs have been organised in 24 villages in the district for the benefit of villagers. Also, he urged banking institutions and officials to set targets to help out farmers with providing loans and other facilities.

Further, the Assistant Director of the Food and Civil Supplies department, Dr. Kapenlo Thong, spoke of issues faced by villagers. He requested the banking institutions to set up ‘easily accessible’ facilities in Jakhama and Sechu-Zubza, villages under Kohima district, for villagers to do transactions.

An annual brochure published by the District Industries and Centre of Kohima was also distributed during the meeting.
