 DIMAPUR — The district administration in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Kohima and Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC), organised an awareness programme on women centric schemes under Mission Shakti at 4th NAP, Thizama on Friday.

According to an update, Vikeduozo Sorhie, gender specialist, DHEW Kohima, outlined the Sambal and Samarthya components under Mission Shakti and the Samarthya component, which deals with the empowerment of women

Giving a brief overview of the workings, goals and activities of DHEW, Sorhie also explained at length the PMMVY scheme and how women can get access to the scheme.

Under the Sambal component, he explained the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme by stating its goals, target beneficiaries and the activities conducted so far in the field of education, sports and skill development.

He also gave a brief overview of Women Helpline, 181 and the assistance it gives to women.

Medochünuo Chielie, counselor, One-Stop Centre, Kohima gave a detailed account of Sakhi-One Stop Centre by focusing on gender based violence (GBV). She explained in detail how OSC caters to women in distress and also cited the various assistances given to women under the scheme like legal, medical and counseling assistance.

She also highlighted the different types of violence faced by women like sexual violence, physical violence, online digital violence, harmful traditional violence and socio- economic violence. Chielie urged the womenfolk to come forward to seek help and not to be tied down by the social taboos.

The programme was chaired by Senti Solo, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Rukülü Tunyi, assistant commandant, 4th NAP, Thizama.
